Solis Set For Billboard Regional Mexican Summit
September 05, 2008 - Latin

MARCO ANTONIO SOLIS
By Leila Cobo, Miami

Latin superstar Marco Antonio Solís has been confirmed as one of the star Q&A artists for the Billboard Regional Mexican Music Summit, taking place Oct. 6-8 at the Wilshire Grand Hotel in Los Angeles. The Solis Q&A takes place Oct. 8, one day following the release of his new studio album, "No Molestar," on Fonovisa Records.

Solis, who rarely gives interviews, is one of the top-selling Latin acts of all time. He holds court - together with Luis Miguel and Los Temerarios - as the act with most No. 1 albums (eight) on the Billboard Top Latin Albums chart. If "No Molestar" also tops the chart, Solís will be the sole record-holder, with nine No. 1s.

All told, Solis has had 13 titles on the Billboard Top Latin Albums chart, including four compilations, since 1995. Currently, he has two sets on the chart: "Una Noche En Madrid" and a compilation, "La Mejor...Colección" at No. 9 and No. 11, respectively.

As a songwriter, Solís has had more No. 1 hits (15) on the Billboard Hot Latin Tracks chart in the past two decades than any other composer. As a producer, he's taken home Billboard's Latin producer of the year award on three occasions, for work on his own albums and for other artists, including Rocio Durcal, Olga Tañón and Ana Bárbara.

One of Solis' greatest accomplishments in the past few years has been his ability to cross from the regional Mexican realm, where he was a star as the lead voice of romantic group Los Bukis, to pop.
