Boosey Starts Internet Radio Biz
April 25, 2008 - Global | Classical | Digital and Mobile

By Lars Brandle, London

Boosey & Hawkes has launched a Web radio service devoted to classical music.

The classical music publisher's BooseyRadio service will hope to tap the so-called "silver surfer" community, while introducing the genre to a wider audience.

Developed by Boosey's business affairs director Andrew Gummer and head of consultancy Natasha Baldwin at Boosey & Hawkes, the service is free of charge, and allows users to control their playlists by musical mood, composer or period.

The site's pages feature advertising, and a range of ringtones and downloads to buy.

"This is a new way of listening to classical music," cmments Baldwin in a statement. "By producing 'playlists to order', we hope that Boosey Radio will introduce people to works they've not heard before in amongst more familiar favourites. In future we plan to extend the service in response to listener feedback."
