Lil Jon Signs With Universal Republic
October 08, 2008 - RB Hip-Hop

By Hillary Crosley, N.Y.

Lil Jon has signed a new deal with Universal Republic that will bring him onboard as an artist and an A&R/production consultant for the major label.

His oft-delayed "Crunk Rock" album is now set for a 2009 release via his new label home and the MC and producer is currently hammering out the details as to whether his imprint, BME Recordings, will be wholly distributed via Universal Republic as well.

TVT, Lil Jon former label, filed for bankruptcy earlier this year and the company's catalog, including Lil Jon's music, was absorbed by the Orchard. In August, Lil Jon signed a content partnership deal, which includes brand marketing and A&R direction, with the company.

Largely due to TVT-related turmoil, Lil Jon hasn't released a new studio album since 2004's "Crunk Juice," which has sold more than 2.5 million copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
