Indie Bands Work Beverage Branding
September 18, 2008 - Branding

By Hillary Crosley, N.Y.

The Cool Kids, Matt & Kim and Flosstradamus were center stage at a concert Tuesday night (Sept. 16) sponsored by Mountain Dew's Green Label Sound record label.

The Cool Kids opened the show, held at at New York's Le Poisson Rouge, with "Delivery Man" and ran through their most popular tracks like "Black Mags." Matt & Kim followed with "Yea Yeah," mixing in a dose of covers, like "Hip Hop" from dead prez. Security tamed crowd-surfers before DJ-duo Flosstradamus wrapped up the show with an electronic old school DJ set as Mickey Factz, DJ Mick Boogie, Terry Urban and DJ AM looked on.

In August, the Cool Kids, who are signed to Chocolate Industries, partnered with Green Label Sound to release their single, "Delivery Man." Matt & Kim, who released their last single "Good Ol' Fashioned Nightmare" via RCRD LBL, will release their next single "Daylight" via Green Label Sound in the coming weeks. Both artists partnered with Green Label Sound to release just one single, and the company is in talks to distribute and promote more music.

"Our goal is to take emerging artists and plug them into our system to help them break through," Pepsi-Cola North America VP of portfolio brands Frank Cooper told Billboard in August. "We are not trying to compete with or replicate the models of the traditional labels."
